before you file a complaint it’s important to know Landlord Tenant Law vs Fair Housing Law

Landlord Tenant Law involves day to day housing transactions including but not limited to:

  • Deposits

  • Repairs

  • Rent payments

  • Other issues related to the Lease

Fair housing violations may involve these elements but are also driven by the presence of a protected class such as a person’s:

  • Sex

  • Color

  • Race,

  • Religion

  • National origin

  • Familial status or Veteran status.

  • If a housing provider is unwilling to help residents with physical or

mental disabilities to make changes to their home, that may also be seen as a violation.

If you feel any of this applies to your situation, complete our intake/complaint form.

If your housing conflict or issue DOES NOT involve a difference in treatment based on a protected class then your issue may instead be solely a landlord-tenant law concern.

Unfortunately, our agency cannot help with landlord-tenant related issues but don’t worry! There are many resources for landlord-tenant law you can find here.
